Place an asterisk or numeral superscript after something you want to comment on or qualify. Use numerals if there are more than 2 annotations.
Preferred placement is at the end of a sentence or phrase.
Asterisks or numeral superscripts go outside the punctuation (. ? ! ,) with the exception of the dash (place before the dash).
Copyright and trademark symbols (℠ ® © ™) go inside the punctuation.
Text should follow foreground color contrast rules, as well as minimum size guidelines for readability.
Header hierarchy should be considered when using standard styling on a page: H1s should be followed by H2s and so on. If need be, use different styling (helper classes) without altering the programmatic hierarchy.
